Get inspired

If you only have a few days before or after the wedding, here is a list of not-too-far-away-from-the-capital-but-still-rewarding-sites we recommend:

A few hours drive from Antananarivo:

Also, in Tana:

If you are less short on time, here are our picks:

  • Travel along the beautiful “RN7” road: scenic route, several national parks, including Andringitra Park which offers some of the most breathtaking views of the country. South of Toliara also called Tuléar, at the end of the RN7, exceptional diving/snorkeling and great resorts await you in Anakao.
Ravaka’s brother, who has worked as guide/driver for the past 10 years, is an expert on that road (From Antananarivo to Toliara). Contact us if you are interested in traveling this part of the country.

  • Sainte-Marie: a lush tropical island with a paradisiacal shoreline, where you may watch humpback whales breaching. We spent one of our most exquisite holidays here. Our stay consisted in: snorkeling and swimming in idyllic coves, romantic scooter rides on the seashore sunset, eating succulent “Langouste à la Sainte-Marie” (grilled lobster in coconut broth).
  • Nosy-Be and especially the smaller islands around: magnificent beaches (the kind you will have on your screensaver) and amazing diving, as well as crater lakes and waterfalls, cocoa and vanilla plantations. And for animal lovers: get ready to have lemurs jump and crawl all over you on Nosy Komba.
  • The Tsingy of Bemaraha and the Baobab Alley: trek through the sharp pinnacles and spectacular canyons, and have a walk traversing the iconic Malagasy trees.
  • Fort-Dauphin (called Tolagnaro in Malagasy)
  • Diego-Suarez (called Antsiranana in Malagasy)

A few examples of itineraries, if you have…

  • 5 days or less the RN2 and Sainte-Marie: road trip from Tana to Tamatave, bus and then boat to Sainte-Marie, a couple of days there and then fly back to Tana. You could also fly both ways and have more time on Sainte-Marie.
  • At least 5 days – the West: Morondava, Belo-sur-Mer, the Tsingy and the Baobab Alley.
  • At least 7 days – the South: the RN7, two national parks (out of our top 3: Andringitra, Ranomafana and Isalo), Anakao and then fly back to Tana from Toliara airport.

After the wedding, we are planning to go north (Nosy-Be and the Ankarana National Park). Departure: 19 June and return to Tana: 28 June, by plane. Contact us if you are interested in joining us for a part of our trip!
