Despite its natural resources and cultural wealth, the majority of the Malagasy people are very poor and the poverty can be seen almost everywhere: be prepared for it. If you’re willing to help, we’ll be happy to put you in touch with great community-based structures.
Safety in some parts of the country is considered being an issue, according to several embassies websites. Our advice is to be vigilant, like in many places in the world: don’t show off your belongings, when in doubt ask for local advice and keep a low profile.
